About Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Support Brigade
Our members and their roles
Our membership comes from all walks of life, and includes men and women from their early 20s through to their late 70s and beyond. Some are retired, experienced firefighters; some are active in other parts of the Rural Fire Service; and some have no prior firefighting experience, but are committed, enthusiastic volunteers who are keen to support their local community in a particularly valuable way.
We are always looking for more members. Our brigade is unique in offering a wide array of roles to suit almost anyone, from administrative tasks to field roles.
Individual roles could include any or all of the following:
Administration
- Incident Management Team (IMT) Logisitcs Cell administration support
- Telephone reception and Logging assistance
- Transport management and organisation
- Crew relief organisation
Transport
- Driving of 4WD vehicles and small buses for delivery of personnel, meals and firefighting supplies
- Driving of filler tanker
- Driving of supply truck for deployment of buoywalls etc
- Both on-road and off-road driving
- Transport off-sider including navigation and radio operation
Field
- Staging and Assembly Area management
- Field logistics support at major incidents and hazard reductions
- Field communications assistance
- and assisting with Aviation support - Air pads and buoywall set up and management
